Which design rules do I need take into account in designing a system with SolarEdge?

If you work with SolarEdge optimizers, you have to take into account some design rules.

Design rules

  • Every system with more than 4 solar panels can be designed with Solaredge *
  • For 4 to 8 solar panels you can use the 1-phase compact inverters with the M2640 optimizer (including 4 MPPTs). A maximum of 2 solar panels in series can be connected per tracker. Of course within the set specifications, such as the power.

Power per string

  • Single-phase HD Wave inverters: the maximum string power is 5.7 kW by one single string. More strings are possible
  • 3-phase inverters: the maximum string power is 11.25 kW by one single string. More strings are possible
  • When using P800 or P850 optimizers: the maximum string power is 13.5 kW by one single string, only when the difference between the other strings are less then 2000W

Type optimizer per string

  • P300, P370 and P500 are 1:1 optimizers, these types can be combined in 1 string
  • P404, P405 and P505 zijn 1:1 optimizers, these types can be combined in 1 string
  • P600 and P700 are 2:1 optimizers, these types can be combined in 1 string
  • P800 and P850 are 2:1 optimizers, these types can be combined in 1 string
  • It’s not permitted to combine other types of optimizers then mentioned here in 1 string.

Compatibility 2:1 optimizers

There are two more important remarks concerning the optimizers where 2 panels can be connected to 1 optimizer:

  • The P600 can only be used when using 3-fase inverter > 15kW
  • The P700, P800 and P850 can only be used when using inverters > 16kW
